IPICO SPORTS SYSTEMS AND R-BIES INC. OF JAPAN CELEBRATE 2012 TOKYO MARATHON TIMING SUCCESS AND RENEWAL OF EXCLUSIVE DISTRIBUTOR AGREEMENT
Company’s Japanese partner expands market penetration and continues successful partnership with IPICO Sports.
Peoria, Illinois, USA – April 2nd, 2012 — IPICO Sports announced that The RECS, Inc., a division of Tokyo based R-bies, Inc., using IPICO Sports systems, timed the sixth edition of the Tokyo Marathon on February, 26, 2012. In addition IPICO Sports and R-bies Inc. formally signed the Exclusive Distributor Agreement to continue the distribution of IPICO Sports systems in Japan.
Since its debut in 2007, the Tokyo Marathon has rapidly grown in both size and significance. In 2010, over 335,000 applicants entered the lottery for 32,000 available positions in the marathon, and 3,000 available positions in the accompanying 10 km race. The Tokyo Marathon is an IAAF Gold Label Road Race. The event was also used as part of the selection process for the members of the 2012 Japanese Olympic Marathon Team.
Director General, Chief Operating Officer and Race Director of the Tokyo Marathon and Tokyo Marathon Foundation Tad Hayano said, “We are very happy about the timing results produced with the IPICO Sports products. We demand very high standards. The IPICO system met and exceeded our expectations.”
Gordon Westwater, IPICO Sports President and CEO, remarked, “I was in Tokyo to observe the first class operation of the Tokyo Marathon, one of the industry’s global leaders. The results were very pleasing and the professionalism displayed by the Tokyo Marathon Team and by the RECS team was outstanding. In addition we are delighted to be working with R-bies, the industry leader in Japan, to impact that marketplace in a very significant way. We are pleased to renew our Distributor Agreement with R-bies to continue our company’s expansion in the Asian market.”
IPICO Sports began working with The RECS, Inc. in 2007. In July 2009, The RECS, Inc. expanded its partnership to become responsible for the distribution of IPICO Sports automated tracking and timing solutions for use in the active sports and wellness markets in Japan. “We achieved great success at the Tokyo Marathon 2012 using IPICO timing,” R-bies Corporation President Jiro Hashimoto said. “Demonstrating our mutual confidence in each other, it is our pleasure to renew the contract for R’bies as the Exclusive Distributor of IPICO Sports systems in Japan, we look forward to the successful introduction of their solutions into the active sports market in Japan.”
IPICO Sports’ next-generation IP-X™ RFID Air-interface Communication Protocol was developed to overcome the limitations faced by conventional Reader-Talk-First (RTF) protocols such as motion, distance, crowds and demanding environmental conditions. This patented Dual Frequency technology eliminates signal loss and tag read collision, working especially well with objects and environments high in liquid, carbon and electronic content, such as the human body. Since an initial market introduction in March 2007, IPICO Sports systems are now used in over 50 countries, and continue to develop and grow a loyal following throughout the globe.
R-bies Corporation (formerly Runners Inc.) was founded in 1975 and is the leading event management company in active sports in Japan, and it also provides online registration services for events, video and photo services, sports equipment development, and produces numerous print media publications. Through its event management and sports timing divisions, The RECS, Inc., it timed over 900,000 participants in more than 400 major events in 2010, including the Tokyo Marathon, Nagoya International Women’s Marathon, Beppu-Oita Mainichi Marathon and Hokkaido Marathon.
