IPICO Timer of the Month: Craig Wilson, Red Cap Timing
Craig Wilson wasn’t always a timer. In fact, he got his start in timing by simply volunteering. For almost 30 years, Craig was an environmental scientist for the state of California where he proposed water quality standards and managed the state’s water quality monitoring program. In 2004, when his son was on the high school track team, he volunteered to learn how the school’s timing equipment worked. His first two races were timed with FinishLynx. From there, he was hooked. Three years later he created Red Cap Timing, and he’s since created a web app called TimerHub. We recently talked to Craig about Red Cap Timing, his IPICO set up and how to communicate with race directors, coaches and spectators. Tell [ ... read more ]

Ken Racine started his endurance career in the 1980s, spending five years participating in triathlons. After taking time off to focus on his family and career, he returned at age 39 and started competing again. That second wind helped him solidify his decision to become a race director, and in 2006 Racine MultiSports was formed. Today, the company owns and operates 17 events, which includes timing with IPICO equipment. We recently caught up with Ken and talked about how he got into timing, his IPICO setup and advice on how to enter the timing field. Tell us a little about Racine Timing and how it came out of Racine MultiSports. After hiring timing companies for the first two years of operation, I decided to [ ... read more ]

A TEXAS TIMER’S LONDON MARATHON EXPERIENCE
Who is Kirsten Lancaster? A petite IPICO Timer from Belton, Texas, Kirsten Lancaster slings mats and barricades with the strongest of men.  Despite women being a minority in the timing industry, she has no problem easily proving she’s “one of the guys” when it comes to timing operations and tech-savviness. While at Texas A&M University, Kirsten was on the cycling team and enjoyed the camaraderie that comes with endurance sports.  She looked forward to daily rides and weekends racing with her team, and bonding while strategizing how they would beat their big rivals. “I swim, I run, I used to be into triathlons, [ ... read more ]

EXPAND YOUR TIMING BUSINESS by Gemini Timing We have owned Gemini Timing for three years. During these three years we have been perfectly content with timing 5K’s, 10K’s, Mud Runs, Half Marathons, Marathons, Triathlons, if you can run it, we can time it.  A client of ours who is the race director for a 4th of July race approached us in March 2014 and asked if we had the capability of timing bike races.  We didn’t yet but having just attended the Ipico Conference that January we knew that there was equipment available to us that could make this possible.  So after a little research we were the proud owners of several sets of bike antennas and power tags capable of safely timing bikes whipping over a finish [ ... read more ]
Dragons Den – Quid Crono
Congratulations to Julie Belisle and Marie-Claude Dube of Quid Chrono for their success in being selected for the upcoming season of the CBC’s Dragons Den in Canada! They were selected from hundreds of French Canadian entrants who were vying for air time for their ideas and potential funding from the Dragons. For our American customers, this program is similar to the Shark Tank on US television- with one proviso…… it is designed to encourage and promote entrepreneurism in the Province of Quebec, compared to the US and English Canada shows that have a higher degree of “entertainment” in their design. Not only did the ladies look great ( see photo above ) but they presented very well and received many [ ... read more ]
